I mean, who need 4.5 cars? 20 year old 5 litre German luxobarges are a really bad idea, right?
Right?
Right?

In their time, those were known for being wildly complicated (and unreliable) even for a Mercedes. Previous gen a better idea.

£1,200 though, £600ea between myself and Schaefft.

How many of us will it take to talk you down off the ledge?

Go for it

Run

Not too many TBH, 600 bob is 600 bob and I could quite happily spend that on the Skoda pickup and make it great. Also the cost of parts for the Merc worries me.

Yup, but I’m so 50/50. If there’s minimal rust I’ll genuinely consider it.

Do it.
I mean, go for it, I’m probably going to buy that X5, you should get this.
![]() 07/02/2016 at 21:05 |

Yo, what X5? Are you replacing the Rangie?
![]() 07/02/2016 at 21:06 |

Most likely, I think my last post was about the X5, test drove it today.
I’m in love with that car.

I seem to recall lots of hydraulics and double pane windows with problems. I’d just research the hell out of it first, and have someone qualified look at it. At least the engine is reliable, I think.

You’re obviously a glutton for punishment, moving from a V8 L322 to an 4.4 e53 is almost a sideways step!

I’m relying on my German friend to fully appreciate and assess the car from his motherland.
Also I’ll do some reading :)

The Rangie has been behaving weirdly the past few weeks, everything is working fine.

Calm before the storm mate. I’m well versed in it - you’re right, it's time to sell.

If your German friend is a mechanic ... that’s what you really need.
![]() 07/02/2016 at 21:23 |

Exactly, and there is nothing better than selling a car with no obvious faults.

He is not

Absolutely. No argument from this corner. Y U no Cayenne anymore?

I see no bad idea at all here.
But.. I think you need a German Shepherd so it looks like the 80s Matchbox car.
Which is also not a bad idea.

They have a premium over the Touaregs, X5s and RR Sports. The ones I can afford are high-mileage or beat to hell, that one nice one I found is gone.
I’m still checking a RR Sport tomorrow that is in real good shape.

Worst idea.

I didn’t know that you were Schaefft.

I am not, although he does have a certain influence over me. I would never normally have any desire to even look at an Oldsmobile Aurora, never mind work on one, nor consider purchasing daft old large displacement German automobiles with a history of costing ££££ just to keep on the road.

I have a habit of listening to what you say. It’s a 97 so the electrical issues are supposedly sorted.

In this case I hope so. I’m normally pro-Mercedes, but I can’t be this time. The electrical issues may be sorted, for now, but it may develop new ones. Or it may have about ten grand in mechanical issues over the next year (not exaggerating). Techs hate working on their own cars. Techs don’t own 140's.
